Norman Blissett – Founder and Director of Gallanach

Norman Blissett is a Board, Strategy and People Consultant.  He has cross sector experience of delivering:

  • improved board and senior team performance;
  • vision, mission, values and strategy;
  • alignment of people and strategy;
  • organisational development and change programmes;
  • improved performance of HR teams.

After completing a Chemistry degree at Edinburgh University, Norman’s career started in the pharmaceutical industry in sales and marketing.  He then studied Scots and European Law, graduating with a LLM, before moving to the British Medical Association in their advice and representation service to doctors.  This was followed by several senior HR roles in the NHS.  Most recently he was Director of Systems and Impact at Family Action, one of the UK’s leading family charities, and Chair of Bridge Mental Health Ltd.

Norman is a Chartered Director, Fellow of the Institute of Directors, Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and Professional Member of the Centre for Evidence Based Management.

He is also Chair of Cyclopark, one of Europe’s leading cycling and multisport venues, and a Trustee/NED at the Family Holiday Association.

As HR Director at Family Action he led a whole organisation modernisation programme resulting in improved performance, a 15% increase in revenue over two years and two HR Distinction awards in 2016.

As Chair of Cyclopark he led the review and introduction of a new strategy to turn Cyclopark into the leading and most exciting cycling venue in Europe. Cyclopark aims to significantly increase visitor numbers and revenue, have beginner to elite development programmes, run european and world level cycling competitions and have high profile mass participation events.

As Chair of Bridge Mental Health he put in place a new strategy that enabled the charity to increase the number of service users it supported, income and reserves, all by over 300%.

Gallanach got to grips quickly with the challenges faced by the Directors Group, both as individuals and as a team.  From this they identified the practical steps required to build the cohesion and performance of the team as we strive to lead the organisation to achieve our bold vision.  The workshop they facilitated was not only very useful in building the team, but also interesting and enjoyable.
