Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand
A fantastic place to ride with some great off-road trails.
Chris and Lisa Foggin share their cycling experience in Alexandra with us.
“We are spoilt here in Central Otago. Here is a taste of our cycling life. Big skies, big landscapes, big trails. Enjoy!
Alexandra
Alexandra is a town in the Central Otago district of the South Island of New Zealand. It is on the banks of the Clutha River, on State Highway 8, 188 kilometres by road from Dunedin and 33 kilometres south of Cromwell.
"Super-trail"
In Central Otago, we have a ‘super-trail’ being formed. Existing great trails are being added too, with an expected 500 km of fabulous off-road trails linking together.
So much to do in Central Otago
Already there is the original 152 km Central Otago Rail Trail, the Roxburgh Gorge Trail, Clutha Gold Trail, Queenstown Trails and soon to be opened the epic Lake Dunstan Trail.
Epic place to ride
Add to that, the numerous river trails that link the aforementioned and the proposed trails linking Wanaka and Queenstown to the network. It is an epic place to ride.
I know I am biased but...
I am a little bit biased because we live in Central Otago. We are blessed with the climate and with the infrastructure that has been put around us in terms of off-road riding – everything from pretty low-level grade 1-2 rides all the way to grade 5-6.
It never gets old
I can do the same ride over and over, but it never gets boring. The scenery has so much to offer.
One of the greatest places in the world to ride
Whether you are looking for a rugged mountain bike trail or a cruisy river trail than runs down the most beautiful gorges around the world, we have it!
